Mosharraf Hossain, a 55-year-old man, was admitted to Green Life Hospital in Panthapath, Dhaka, with chest pain. Following an open-heart surgery, the doctor initially claimed the procedure was successful but later informed the family that Mosharraf had passed away.
The family alleges that negligence and improper treatment caused his de*ath. They also claim the hospital resorted to various tactics to suppress the incident, including issuing a handwritten bill.
Mosharraf’s son, Md. Litu Hossain, said, "In the operating theater, the doctor’s assistants and other staff handled the surgery. I repeatedly asked them where the doctor was. Even after taking my father to the operating theater, the doctor didn’t arrive. It took almost an hour and a half for the doctor to show up. By then, my father’s heart had already been opened. My younger sister was taken inside and shown that the team was working, but when asked where the doctor was, those in the operating theater replied, 'The doctor is on the way.'"
Mosharraf’s daughter, Farzana Hossain, added, "Dr. AKM Manzurul Alam offered to bear my educational expenses and promised me a job at Green Life Hospital after my studies. Shortly afterward, his assistant Jewel demanded BDT 5,000 for ambulance expenses. But my father has already died—what am I supposed to do with that money?"
The hospital authorities claimed the matter is under discussion at a higher level. Following the incident, the accused doctor, Dr. AKM Manzurul Alam, reportedly fled.
